Substack in short.

Substack has no monthly fee and keeps 10% of subscription revenue, plus Stripe’s fees. Recipe embeds have been in beta since February 2026: you can put a whole recipe below the paywall, but a recipe can’t be partly paywalled or downloaded as a PDF. Substack’s help pages describe no serving scaling, shopping lists or meal plans. Readers find you through Substack’s app and network, which helps discovery, but your publication lives inside theirs, with no app under your name.
